DSE Standard course (1 day in-house or 3hr online course)

This course is for any employee interested in DSE and Health and Safety, including Line managers, health and safety professionals, facilities and HR personnel.

What Will the Course Cover?

  • Introduction to Ergonomics. – Workstations should not be a one-size-fits-all. Even if your equipment complies with HSE regulations, it doesn’t always follow that it will suit all your employees. This course will show you how to set up the users to be comfortable and supportive and explain how to spot when the equipment is unsuitable. This will help reduce musculoskeletal injury.
  • DSE legislation.  – what the law says and how to ensure you are compliant, including the Equalities Act/ Health and Safety Law
  • Basic Anatomy and common musculoskeletal issues. Knowing what can go wrong will help you to understand the importance of a good DSE set-up. 
  • Advised DSE workstation set up. – The knowledge of how to set up the workstation, how high you should sit, how to adjust the chair and where the equipment goes on the desk. This section also includes information on why movement is so important.
  • Practical  – For in-house courses, this enables the delegates to practice what they have learned at a workstation.

For online courses – at the end of the presentation, an analysis of desk set-ups will be carried out. 

By the end of the course, delegates will have the confidence to conduct DSE assessments and they will have gained an understanding of the regulations associated with DSE. They will better understand the more common musculoskeletal conditions and how these can be prevented when working at a computer workstation.
